LINC 6 Graduation

Leadership, Networking, Involvement and Community. These are the goals and purpose of the McDowell, NC Leadership Program that our Career Specialist April Stephens embarked upon when entering the LINC program. April graduated from the 2014 LINC program recently. The program was established as an interactive approach to developing citizen awareness and engagement in the life of the community.

MCDOWELL LINC is a monthly series of nine day-long programs involving site visits, presentations and group discussions at various locations within the county. Through these “field classrooms,” participants gain insight into McDowell County’s business, government, civic and cultural sectors.

April shared that they learned about the history of the greenway, historic Carson House, McDowell House, went to manufacturing facilities, learned about the Economic Development of McDowell County, went to an elementary school and high school. They also toured and learned the history of the hospital, health department, toured the YMCA and learned about McDowell Mission Ministries. And this was to name just a few!

April said, “I learned a lot of history and it was a very educational program. It is hard to believe that I live in McDowell County and learned so much. It was time well spent!”

Way to go April for your commitment and dedication to community involvement!
